Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago to Teach Master Class

The world famous dance troupe, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago Company, will lead a master class for College of the Canyons dance students as well as interested community members as a prelude to their Feb. 7, 2009 performance at the Santa Clarita Performing Art Center at College of the Canyons.

"This is a great opportunity for our students and interested community members to get involved, beyond just buying a ticket, and a way to learn skills from professional dancers,” said Dr. Floyd Moos, dean of fine and performing arts. “This is a great opportunity for students and community members to learn from some of the best."

The master class will be held at 11 a.m. in Room 101 (dance studio) in Pico Canyon Hall and will be taught at the beginner and intermediate level. The class is free and open to the public. It will be filled on a first come, first serve basis and slots are limited.

Those interested in participating in the class can contact Mary Ferguson at (661) 259-7800, ext. 21064.

As part of their west coast tour, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago will perform at the PAC later that day at 8 p.m.

Currently in its 46th season, Giordano continues to bring the excitement of American jazz dance to cheering audiences in Chicago, across the United States and around the world.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Giordano "now belongs in the front ranks of this city's resident companies," and "for sheer kinetic excitement and technical wizardry, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago simply can't be beat."

Founded by the late Gus Giordano and currently under the leadership of Artistic Director Nan Giordano, Giordano continually expands the boundaries of jazz dance, and its new works consistently receive critical and audience acclaim.

“This is a very athletic show with beautiful men and women,” said Giordano. “It is accessible, family friendly, and the pieces are short. “

For tickets to the Giordano performance, visit the PAC website at www.canyonsPAC.com.
