Work of Local Teachers, Students Featured at College Art Gallery
In an effort to showcase the talents of the Santa Clarita Valley’s high school students and instructors, the College of the Canyons Art Gallery will present an exhibition featuring pieces of locally created art March 15 through April 7.
The “High School Teacher-Student Art Exhibition” is expected to include 70 to 100 pieces of art and creative media produced by staff and students from Bowman, Canyon, Golden Valley, Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch high schools.
Pieces will include paintings, drawings, ceramic art, sculptures, photos, graphic design, and more.
“During the 2010 winter session we hosted an exhibition featuring the work of high school instructors paired with examples created by their students,” said Larry Hurst, College of the Canyons Art Gallery director. “Everyone involved enjoyed the experience, so we have decided to try it again this year.
“These instructors are extremely dedicated to their students’ success,” added Hurst, “and as arts professionals they serve as outstanding role models.”
A special artists' reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. opening night, March 15, in the college’s Art Gallery, located on the Valencia campus.
The College of the Canyons Art Gallery is open 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Visitors unable to visit the gallery during these hours are welcome to call (661) 362-3612 to make a viewing appointment. All gallery exhibitions and related events are free and open to the public.
