FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. COC-06-102-SC May 1, 2006
'Velvet Elvis' Among Items Offered at Wine Classic Robert Louis Stevenson said, "Wine is bottled poetry" and on June 3, 2006 the poetry will be flowing at the 18th annual Santa Clarita Valley Wine Classic at CalArts. The region's premier wine-tasting event and fundraiser for the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, which will feature an excellent array of rare and vintage wines donated by collectors and merchants, is also an ideal event for food and music lovers as well, offering gourmet food from some of Santa Clarita's finest restaurants and catering services, and live music. Guests will be able to bid on current and rare vintage wines, artwork, travel and restaurant certificates during a silent auction. Vintage library wines will be available for tasting, such as the 2001 Chateau Margaux and Chateau Haut Brion, 2 first-growth Bordeaux wines, as well as Kistler chardonnays. All guests will receive souvenir glasses and trays. Guests can also win exquisite wines during a raffle such as a 3-liter 2001 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, a 1.5-liter bottle of Joseph Phelps 2002 Insignia (named "Wine of the year" for 2005 by Wine Spectator), or a rare and gorgeous, "Velvet Elvis" magnum of Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon licensed by Graceland Cellars. Peets Coffee and Tea will donate its services during the event and Classic Designs Jewelry will donate a diamond necklace for auction. Ticket prices are $70 each or $130 a pair before the event, and $80 each or $150 a pair at the door. Designated drivers can join at $35 and group sales at $60 each (10 minimum) by May 30. The SCV Youth Orchestra is a three-tiered instrumental educational program that was founded at CalArts in 1969 and moved to College of the Canyons in 1989. The program provides a positive and creative outlet for hundreds of young musicians throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
