Photo Opportunity: Surf's Up for Students First-time-ever Introduction to Surfing class students catch some waves, prepare equipment, learn new skills. Subject: Intro to Surfing class will take field trips to Faria Beach Park. Time: 7 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006 and Thursday, June 29, 2006. Place: Mondos (1 mile south of Faria County Park on Pacific Coast Highway) 4350 Pacific Coast Highway, Ventura, CA 93001-9759 (800) 654-3951 Contact: John McElwain, (661) 362-3494; Adam Kempler, (661) 362-3266. Event: Students in this class will take field trips to Faria Beach to test their surfing skills in the water, accompanied by their instructor, Adam Kempler. In order to be permitted to attend these field trips, students had to pass a 100-yard swim test and demonstrate the ability to tread water for 5 minutes. Field trip dates are subject to change due to the lack of surf or dangerous surf. Note to Editors: Intro to Surfing is a new class at College of the Canyons, and is extremely popular. This would make an interesting story about how some Santa Clarita residents are escaping the summer heat. |
