New Assistant Superintendent, VP of Instruction Hired

College of the Canyons has hired Dr. Mitjl Capet as its new assistant superintendent/vice president of instruction. Capet will begin his new position on Aug. 1, just prior to the start of the college's fall semester.

Capet's resume includes experience in vocational education, the arts, educational/facilities master planning, enrollment management, budgeting, advocacy, involvement in the community, and a track record of aligning and supporting satellite educational centers.

"We are extraordinarily pleased to have someone with Mitjl's broad range of experience and expertise since we are in an extraordinary period of expansion and growth and he will play an important role in shaping the college's future," said Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook, superintendent-president of the college.

Capet received his doctorate degree in education from UCLA with an emphasis in curriculum and occupational education. He received his master's of fine arts degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. and his bachelor's degree in philosophy from UCLA. He also earned a certificate from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, and MFA from the Catholic University of America.

Capet's extensive work history includes instruction and administration at the K-12, community college and university levels. He comes to College of the Canyons from Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest, where he has been serving as vice president of student learning. Cerro Coso is a unique college because it is made up of five locations and one virtual center that serve an 18,000-square-mile area including Inyo, Kern and San Bernardino counties. Previously he was the dean of business, art and applied technology at Rio Hondo College and the Humanities Division chair at Imperial Valley College.
