Art Gallery Presents Photography of Robert Glenn Ketchum
The College of the Canyons Art Gallery will exhibit the photography of landscape photographer and environmental advocate Robert Glenn Ketchum from Aug. 24 through Sept. 19.
“When you first view Mr. Ketchum’s work, you are immediately impressed by the sheer beauty and impeccable quality of these photographs,” said Larry Hurst, director of the college’s art gallery. “Upon further investigation you discover the passionate environmental advocacy that invests these images with their extraordinary power.”
After graduating from UCLA and experiencing an epiphany in the California redwoods, Ketchum began focusing exclusively on landscape photography. Soon he was doing work for the Sierra Club and eventually became the Curator of Photography at the National Park Foundation. It was during this time that he realized a bond was developing between him and the environment. “I decided that maybe there was some way, within the work, to speak out on behalf of the land or to make the work serve it,” said Ketchum.
He has had more than 400 solo and group exhibitions and published 12 books of his photographs. His work can be found in major museum collections around the world.
A reception for this exhibition will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 at the College of the Canyons Art Gallery. A lecture and book-signing is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sept. 17.
This exhibition and all related events are free and open to the public.
The COC Art Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
Anyone unable to attend during these hours is welcome to call the gallery at (661) 362-3612 to make an appointment.
