Enrollment Fees Increase at College of the Canyons
Enrollment fees at all of Californias community colleges have been raised from $18 to $26 per unit for the fall, 2004 semester as a result of legislation signed by the governor on Aug. 11. College of the Canyons will be collecting the higher fees starting Friday, Aug. 13.
Well over 10,000 students have registered at College of the Canyons for the fall semester to date, said Sue Bozman, dean of district communication, marketing and external relations at the college. We will be asking all of those students to pay the $8-per-unit difference right away.
Whenever a fee change occurs at a community college, computers have to be reprogrammed, information on how to pay the increased fees needs to be disseminated, catalogs and class schedules need to be changed, Web sites are revised, phone messages are updated and cooperation of the student body is required.
When enrollment fees were raised last year from $11 to $18 per unit, Bozman said, there was an amazing amount of cooperation by everyone which made the process very smooth.
Students who have already registered for the fall semester, are required to pay the $8 difference for each registered unit. Their accounts will be updated over the weekend and available for student access via on-line (www.canyons.edu) and STAR telephone (661-255-2867) systems starting Monday, Aug. 16. Payment can be made by using a credit card on either of these systems or by mailing a check to the college at:
- College of the Canyons
- Student Business Office
- 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road
- Santa Clarita, CA 91355
Students are asked to pay these fees by Sept. 3.
