College's Early Childhood Education Center Earns Accreditation
SANTA CLARITA The Center for Early Childhood Education at College of the Canyons has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nations leading organization of early childhood professionals.
Were proud that the program has been recognized for reaching the highest professional standards, said Cam Valenzuela, director of the center. This accreditation lets families know that their children are getting the best possible care and early learning experiences.
The stand-alone center is an on-campus laboratory preschool that was established to provide both a supervised educational experience for students majoring in early childhood education and a developmental program for toddlers to 5-year-olds.
The center also offers Early Childhood and Foster & Kinship Care Education courses developed to meet California licensing requirements.
More than 8,000 early childhood programs serving nearly three-quarters of a million children are accredited by the NAEYC.
By earning accreditation, the Center for Early Childhood Education has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start, said Mark Ginsberg, executive director of the NAEYC.
