Joint-Agency Drive-Through Flu-Shot Clinic Gail Ortiz, City of Santa Clarita, (661) 255-4314 John McElwain, COC, (661) 362-3494 Subject: Community Flu-Shot Clinic Time: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 Place: Parking lots #7 and #8, College of the Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355 Contact: John McElwain, (661) 362-5604 Event: Free flu shots will be administered to the public from 10 am to 12:30 pm. It is a stay-in-your-car, roll-down-your-window, roll-up-your-sleeve, get-a-flu-shot and drive off event. The flu-shot production line is a joint effort on the part of College of the Canyons, the L.A. County Department of Public Health, the City of Santa Clarita and the L.A. County Sheriff and Fire Departments. It is anticipated that more than 1,000 flu shots will be administered during this period. Flu shots are often provided to the public in anticipation of an active flu season but the event serves a secondary purpose. This exercise will also test the Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) response during a bioterrorism attack. The purpose of the CRI plan is to treat an impacted, mass population with medications within a short time period. Under the plan, the drive thru clinic is called a rapid point of dispensing or POD. College of the Canyons is a designated POD site for the bioterrorism plan. Flu shots will be administered by College of the Canyons nursing students under the supervision of nursing instructors and L.A. County Department of Public Health personnel. |
