Vital Express Center Features Variety of Holiday Performances
If it takes you a little longer to get in the holiday spirit, then the Vital Express Center for the Performing Arts should be your destination to help jumpstart the jingle in your bells. The center will feature seven different holiday events spanning 14 days starting in November that range from theater to dance to music.
Beginning on Friday, Nov.19, at 8 p.m., the holiday season kicks off in fine style with The Three Irish Tenors presenting Christmas in Dublin. Celebrate the holidays with a genuine Irish Christmas, filled with songs of the season such as The Little Drummer Boy and Silent Night. Ticket prices range from $20-$50.
The College of the Canyons Theatre Department follows with The Best of Holiday Voices. Students and alumni of the critically acclaimed "Holiday Voices" series blend their talents in this heartwarming event that celebrates the winter holidays through storytelling, music and dance. "The Best of Holiday Voices" takes place in the Black Box Theater at the Vital Express Center and plays at 8 p.m. on Dec. 3, 10 and 11; at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 12; and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 4. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students with a valid ASG card, staff and seniors, and $8 for children 12 and under.
College of the Canyons Dance highlights the holidays in "'Tis the SeasonÉto be Dancing!", a delightful interpretation of the hustle and bustle of the season through dance. "'Tis the SeasonÉ" runs Dec. 9-10 at 8 p.m. on the main stage. Tickets are $10 for general admission or $8 for students with a valid ASG card.
The College of the Canyons Music Department begins three days of back-to-back musical enjoyment beginning Saturday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m., with "Rejoice and Sing: A Holiday Choral Concert" featuring the Voices of the Canyon, Les Chanteuses, the Chamber Singers and Just Jazz. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for students with a valid ASG card.
Sunday, Dec. 12 will feature the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra with the Santa Clarita Youth Philharmonic and the Prelude Strings in a stirring opening season concert. The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. and tickets are $12 for general admission or $10 for students with a valid ASG card.
COC Music wraps up the three-day blast with the Jazz, Clarinet and Flute Choirs on Monday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Jazz singer Alice Aguiar will join the Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of the legendary Dirk Fischer. The Clarinet and Flute Choir, under the direction of Billy Kerr, will perform a wide variety of styles from classical to jazz. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $6 for students with valid ASG cards.
The Santa Clarita Ballet rounds out the events when it presents it rendition of the timeless classic, "The Nutcracker," running Dec. 18-19. Times are 2 p.m. and 8p.m. on Dec. 18 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 19.
