Report Reveals College's Economic Impact on Community
Download Economic Impact Report
A recently completed economic impact report shows that College of the Canyons contributes significantly to the increased productivity and improved quality of life of the Santa Clarita Valley.
Highlights of the report show the college's significant growth over the years. From an annual operating budget of $1.7 million in 1970 to $97.5 million in 2005-06, the college has infused millions of dollars into the local economy each year. As one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the nation, it has grown to the point where it is the fifth-largest employer in the Santa Clarita Valley with nearly 1,500 employees.
In addition to the educational and workforce training services the college provides, it contributes directly to the economic development and health of the community though employment, business activity and capital construction as well as by aggressively bringing in additional revenue and resources from grants, partnerships, in-kind donations, and federal and states initiatives.
The 2005 Economic Impact Report demonstrates that the Santa Clarita Community College District is a major player in the local economy.
