Theatre Departments 'Solopalooza' Shows Sure to Entertain
The College of the Canyons Theatre Department is inviting community members to experience the artistic intimacy of the one-person show during the "2010 Solopalooza" on Dec. 8 and 9.
Featuring original solo performances by more than 25 COC theatre students, the event is sure to dazzle and delight audiences with a combination of gut-wrenching honesty, startling insights and surprising humor.
“I’m always impressed by the level of talent on display during each Solopalooza performance,” said Paul Wickline, COC Theatre Department chair. “The students write and perform original works that will simply amaze audiences.”
Leading up to the event, students from the college’s Theatre 195: Solo Performance course work with COC theatre instructor and Solopalooza director Susan Hinshaw -- who draws from years of personal experience as an actor and solo performer -- to create a series of original performance pieces containing universal themes that all audiences can enjoy.
“It’s such a privilege to help usher these stories into the world,” Hinshaw said. “This semester’s Solopalooza will include student actors from all walks of life. I invite the community to come and experience their wonderful, heartfelt performances.”
Solopalooza performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, and Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Repertory East Playhouse, located at 24266 Main St. in downtown Newhall.
A different set of solo performance pieces will be presented each night. Admission to both performances is free.
All ages will be admitted, however some performances contain mature language and adult subject matter.
