Holiday Extravaganza Weekend Offers Something for Everyone
Santa Clarita Valley residents looking for fun holiday fare have a rare treat when three different College of the Canyons departments hold three separate holiday events Friday through Sunday, Dec. 12 to 14.
The Theatre Department kicks off the weekend at 7 p.m. Friday with "Holiday Voices," an original college production written entirely by faculty and students. This year's theme is "Home and Hearth," as the production takes a warm look at holiday traditions held by a variety of peoples and cultures.
"Holiday Voices" runs five times over the weekend beginning with the evening show at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. There are two showtimes on both Saturday, Dec. 13, and Sunday, Dec. 14: a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 7. All shows take place in room PE-110 at College of the Canyons. Ticket prices are $8 for general admission and $5 for students, seniors and children. Seating is limited, so reservations are suggested.
The College of the Canyons Symphonic Band and Studio Jazz Ensemble follow close behind as they host their "Second Annual Holiday Concert and Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. Be sure to bring your caroling voices, as this event gets hopping with rousing renditions of holiday favorites, and includes a special appearance by a certain jolly fat man dressed in red! The concert takes place in the College of the Canyons cafeteria. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
Those looking for a more diverse blend of holiday tunes are invited to take part in the "Joyful Noise" concert hosted by the College of the Canyons choirs. Director Julie Lawson is once again preparing a unique and eclectic combination of songs, ranging from Handel and Brahms, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder to Serbian gypsy dance music and a Calypso from Costa Rica.
"Joyful Noise" erupts in the College of the Canyons cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by calling (661) 362-3254.
