About Us
We believe students can make valuable contributions to the world
as they gain challenging educational experience. We strive to
increase community involvement and strengthen leadership skills
through direct service, connect community-based work with
academic study, and build meaningful relationships between
members of the college and the community.
What is Service-Learning?
Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that
integrates meaningful community service with instruction and
reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic
responsibility, and strengthen communities. As defined by the
Chancellor's Office, Service-Learning incorporates the
following:
Service-Learning links service to the community with academic
study.
Service-Learning includes structured reflection to integrate
study and service.
Service-Learning emphasizes working with individuals and groups
on needs defined by the community.
Service-Learning includes civic responsibility, service and
learning, reflection, and critical thinking as part of the
course.
Service-Learning may also include clarification of career
objectives and acquisition of work-related skills.
