NEW Students to Service-Learning MUST ATTEND a Service-Learning Orientation before contacting any agency. NURSING and RETURNING students do not have to attend an orientation, however these students must pick up their paperwork in our office STCN-111 before contacting any agency.

Organization Description Santa Clarita Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) of Visiting Nurse Community Service is dedicated to enhancing the value, dignity, and quality of life for the aged and functionally impaired adults to delay or prevent premature institutionalization.  We strive to maintain functional independence for participants, while providing support for caregivers. Our professional therapeutic staff includes: RNs, clinical social workers, physical therapists, speech therapists, recreational therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists.
 
Volunteer Opportunities

1) Assist with activities (e.g., help participant to complete activity, etc.)

 

2) Set up and set down materials needed for activities

 

3) Serve food

 

4) Creative Implementation (e.g., decorating for special events, hanging     completed arts and crafts, making get well cards or thank you cards for long-term volunteers, etc.)

 

5) Assist with transition to groups (e.g., verbal encouragements to have them participate, walk with participants, push wheelchairs, etc.)

 

6) Administrative (e.g. creating flyers, organizing, filing, making copies of materials, taking inventory of supplies, signing in participants as they arrive in the A.M., etc.)

 

7)  1:1 quality time with participants (e.g., conversing, befriending, completing a special activity with participant, etc.)

 

8) Special Projects (must be approved with Activities Coordinator. A few examples: develop, plan, lead and evaluate a group activity, or a special themed day, birthday celebration for participant(s), etc.).

Volunteer Requirements TB Test needs to be completed, along with a volunteer application.

Please contact the Program Director for more information regarding special training, fingerprinting, and background checks.

We require that you dress in a semi-professional manner (e.g., no short skirts, tank tops, low-cut tops/blouses, or shorts, jeans are okay, etc.).
 
Additional Comments A great place to learn and grow within the health/therapeutic profession of aging adults. There is a new trend for creating community centers that focuses on maintaining the overall quality of life for aging adults with impairments and/or disabilities in the state of California.

        Ahead with Horses

Organization Description Gymnastics on horseback for developmentally disabled children.  Therapeutic riding program.
 
Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers will work hands-on with the children and assist instructors by "spotting" the horses.

Comments Dress Code:  Closed-toe shoes (comfortable as there will be a lot of walking), long pants, and shirt with sleeves (T-shirts are fine).

Bring water, and if volunteering all day there is a half hour lunch break. Bag lunches are recommended.

Description
Assists people with developmental disabilities in becoming and remaining active participants in their communities. Supported living services generally assist people with some, or all of the following: locating housing, going to dinner with a friend, personal assistance in and around the home with meals, laundry, chores, bills, roommates, etc., shopping & budgeting, other community access needs. Individualized day services provide up to five days per week of career planning and community support which can include: seeking and maintaining a job (paid or volunteer), enrolling in classes at college or adult school, enrolling in recreational or hobby classes.

assist in 1:1 supervised activity with adult with developmental disability in the community. Sample activities include classes, work, volunteer work, self-advocacy, etc. In-service attendance and other educational opportunities available as well.
