Carousel Ranch is dedicated to providing equestrian therapy disabled  children, creating a unique and individualized program to meet each child’s specific needs and goals.  Utilizing a combination of vaulting (gymnastics on a moving horse) and therapeutic riding (both English and Western), we strive to create an atmosphere where every child can and will succeed…a place where therapy is disguised as fun.

 
Meaningful Duties Working outside on the ranch, participating in lessons working alongside instructors in lessons with the children, work with horses (grooming, etc.) and general ranch maintenance, etc.  Office work available as well including phones, mailings and helping with special events.

Services Offered

The City of Santa Clarita Newhall Community Center provides a variety of services for the local community. The programs are designed for low income/at risk/in need families and include after school homework help, recreational and educational activities, arts and crafts, free play, etc.
 

Meaningful Duties

Under the supervision of staff members, volunteers help with the homework help program, cleaning, organizing, playing games inside and outside, reading, filing, preparing snacks, interacting with the public, setting up for events, etc.
 

Hours of Operation

Monday-Friday 2:30p.m.-7:30p.m

Newhall Community Center: Volunteers are primarily needed Mon.-Thurs. from 2:30-6:00p.m.; however, they may volunteer any other time that we are open M-F 2:30-8:00p.m. and Saturdays 11:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Granada Villa Homework Help: Mondays and Wednesdays 4:00 p.m.-6:00p.m.

All adults 18+ must commit to 40 hours of service within 6 months.

Comments

The only clothing requirement is that all volunteers dress modestly, no tank tops, skirts, dresses, sandals, low cut tops, baggy pants, hats, or clothing with inappropriate images/words/gang affiliations.  Closed toe shoes are required. 
 

All prospective volunteers must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation.  These are held the first Friday of most months at 3:30p.m.  Please call or e-mail one to two weeks prior to check the schedule and to R.S.V.P.
 

The fingerprinting and background check process can take up to two weeks.  Please plan your volunteering schedule accordingly as you will not be allowed to volunteer until you have been cleared. 

Volunteers under the age of 18 must have signed consent to volunteer from a parent/legal guardian. 

Volunteer applications may not be turned in until after attending orientation.

Services Offered The Community Hiking Club is based in Santa Clarita, California.  They organize hikes and educate the public regarding the various wilderness lands of Southern California.
 
Meaningful Duties Our students will assist with micro-trash clean-up, trail maintenance, invasive non native removal, and the care of a native garden in the East Canyon Picnic area.
