Resource Treasure Chest

There are endless variety of wonderful sites for educators on the web. We have simply listed them alphabetically and expect that you will spend time exploring the many branches of the path. Don't be daunted; there are some wonderful treasures here.

Be aware that some of the sites are commercial portals. These sites contain advertising and, in some cases, may ask for payment for a service or software. They are included because they do offer valuable free services for educators. Their inclusion should not be construed as an endorsement.


Adjunct Nation

Adjunct Nation is connected with the publication Adjunct Advocate which is available in the Adjunct Office. This site has information and job listings tailored to part-time college faculty.

Community College Search Site

A site that provides a handy search tool to locate the web site of any community college around the world.


Facultyonline.com

Among other features, FacultyOnline gives college faculty access to textbook information, including lists of top-selling titles by course and discipline; textbook reviews; book-in-use data; new title information; discussion forums; and a course materials information exchange.

 

FAST: Free Assessment Summary Tool

A site that allows you to poll your students 24/7 about the class you are teaching. The feedback is anonymous and summarized for you into an Exel document.


Finding, Evaluating, and Integrating Web Resources in a Course

These sites are very helpful when you are just beginning to design a course or a project and you want to use web resources. Even if you don't have such plans, check these sites out. You may get some ideas.


MERLOT: Multimedia Education Resource for Learning and Online Teaching

MERLOT is an online community that allows teachers to share material, assignments, activities, etc.

 

On Course

Skip Downing is a college teacher who offers a workshop on student success. This is his website. The section on "Student Success Strategies" has some very useful materials and suggestions.


Online Course Creation and Support

There Sites will usually include tools that allow you to easily create a secure site for a traditional on-campus course. You may be able to post materials, maintain a course calendar, quickly email students, do online testing and post grades. Some sites run the gamut from here to the creation of a completely online course. Many ancillary services and software are also offered.

Teaching Goals Inventory

TGI is a self-assessment of instructional goals available to take online. The TGI was developed by Thomas Angelo and Patricia Cross and reported in their book, Classroom Assessment Techniques: A handbook for College Teachers, 2dn ed., 1993.


Teaching Perspectives Inventory

A short questionnaire to help summarize your views and perceptions about teaching.


Teaching Resource Exchange

A site built by members of the higher education community for members of the higher education community. This site is a source of journals, web sites, and listservs that assist college educators in teaching.


Teaching Tips from APA

An extensive set of teaching tips from the American Psychological Association.  Some of the tips are specific to psychology, but most are not.  A lot of very useful information.


World Lecture Hall

A collection of syllabi and course materials from hundreds of online college courses. It offers ideas on how to incorporate technology into your courses as well as gives you a glimpse into the approaches taken by other faculty members around the world..
