UC Transfer Requirements
|
| So you want to transfer to one of the
eight University of California campuses? Everyone should know
first off that this is not an easy process. As a transfer student,
you must complete at least 60 UC transferable semester units with
a 2.4 minimum grade point average. (GPA) These are minimum
requirements though. To be competitive, you will want to have a
3.2 GPA or higher (impacted majors may require a significantly
higher GPA for admission.)
Unless students were eligible for
admission to the University of California directly from high
school, specific course requirements must also be met:
- 1 Math College Course (The course must have a
prerequisite of Intermediate Algebra)
-
1 English Composition
- 1 course selected from US History, Laboratory
Science, or Foreign Language
These specific requirements must be
passed with grades of "C" or higher. In addition, many
of the campuses screen for completion of major preparation as part
of the admission process. The university will accept a maximum of
70 UC transferable semester units from the community college
(Information on course transferability is included in each course
description.).
Each campus of the University has its
own specific general education requirements. Students also have
the option of completing the Intersegmental General Education
Transfer Curriculum (IGETC),
which is accepted at all campuses of both the University of
California and the California State University provided the entire
curriculum (34 units) is completed prior to transfer. Prospective
transfers should visit the Transfer Center in room C-103 to
examine the catalog of the campus to which they plan to transfer
for specific general education requirements if they do not plan to
use IGETC (it is recommended that students follow IGETC for most
majors at the UC). Students should also refer to the UC
catalog to determine the lower-division courses required for their
major. UC catalogs and articulation agreements (which list College
of the Canyons courses that are equivalent to lower -division
courses offered at UC campuses) are available in the Transfer
Center, Counseling Office and via ASSIST.
While eligible students can be admitted
to any campus of UC, College of the Canyons through the HITE
program has special transfer admission agreements with several UC
Campuses. For more information, check the
HITE
website, or you can speak to someone directly on campus. HITE
is located in STCN Building, Room 123. |
