What is WEE?

WEE is an acronym for the Work Experience Education program at College of the Canyons. WEE helps students achieve their educational and career goals through for-credit internships (WE-186) and general work experience (WE-189). Students enroll in a WE course and use their internship or job for lab hours, attend one class meeting, and complete a number of independent study assignments. Students must have an internship or job in place prior to enrolling in the WE course.

Internships may be related to a Career Education program or associated with the students’ career goal. Internships offer students the opportunity to apply their skills while still in college, gain on-the-job experience, and "try out" a career before graduation.

General work experience is intended to provide students with the opportunity to develop desirable work habits, attitudes and career awareness as well as potentially apply knowledge and skills gained in the area of study from college courses or career exploration in an actual work setting.

The goal of the internship program is to prepare students for the real world of work. College graduates are realizing that it takes more than a degree or certificate to get a good paying job. It takes work experience too.
