Mark Savage


Mark grew up in the San Fernando Valley and played golf at Monroe High School, graduating in 1981.  After high school, he attended LA Valley College in 1981-1982 taking Fire Science classes to pursue his goal of becoming a fire fighter.  In 1990 he moved to Valencia and began attending College of the Canyons.  He played golf for the COC golf team in 1990-1991.   After finishing his playing career, he returned as the Assistant Men's Golf Coach and was a volunteer in that position for 5 years. In 1997, he was hired as the Assistant Golf Coach for the Men's and Women's Golf Teams, and remained in that position until 2010.  During that time, the Men and Women's golf teams won 6 state championships and got to state finals 15 times.
Mark got his start in the Fire Service as an Explorer Scout with the Los Angeles City Fire Department from 1979 to 1982. Upon graduating high school, he was hired by the Beverly Hills Fire Department as a cadet in 1981.  In 1983, he took a position with the Los Angeles County Fire Department on a helicopter fire crew.  At the age of 20, he was hired by the Los Angeles City Fire Department as a Paramedic.  In 1986, he was hired by the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a Firefighter.  Mark has held the ranks of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer and Captain.   He was recently promoted to Battalion Chief and is currently assigned to Battalion 6 in the Santa Clarita Valley. He has been the spokesman for the Department during several staff assignments since 1993.  Mark also taught Emergency Medical Technician classes in 1989-1990 at COC.
Mark is unmarried and has an identical twin brother, Brian, who works as a Captain for the Culver City Fire Department. The rest of Mark's family include his parents, Richard and
Shelby, and older brother Steve. He enjoys playing golf and tennis in his spare time.
