Introduction

Hi everyone, and welcome to public speaking!  My name is GiGi Hessamian, and I am your instructor.  This course is designed to help you develop a variety of communication skills and provide you with an opportunity to practice public speaking in a supportive environment.

Course Description

This course will help you to:

  1. Organize and deliver effective informative and  persuasive speeches applying the principles of public speaking.
  2. Utilize effective research skills using traditional and electronic resources.
  3. Analyze public discourse.

What to Expect in this Course

Each student will complete both an informative and persuasive speech as well as a brief introduction speech.  In order to be successful in this course you must have reliable access to the Internet, a web browser, word processing program, PowerPoint, webcam,  microphone, and Zoom

This is a 100% online class.  We will not have weekly/face-to-face class meetings, but YOU WILL BE GIVING 3 SPEECHES via LIVE ZOOM SESSIONS on scheduled class days. It is important to understand all speeches must be presented LIVE to an audience of your classmates and will be faculty-supervised and faculty-evaluated.

The textbook for this course is an OER book that is free of charge.  It will be made available the first week of class.

Other Relevant Course Information

Students must complete all of the first week assignments to retain their spot in the class.  Participation on weekly forums is also required.  Failing to complete these items will result in being dropped from the class.
