Introduction
Hello and Welcome! – I’m Robert Harris and I am the instructor for Const 108. I am currently the Principal Engineer for the County of Ventura Maintenance Division. I have been in the Facilities construction and maintenance field for over past 30 years. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Public Administration.
Course Description
Introduces the function, responsibilities, authority, and technical requirements of quality assurance of construction projects using California’s building codes as a basis.
What to Expect in this Course
Course will cover the following areas:
- Evaluate how California’s building codes affect construction through regulatory processes.
- Assess how quality assurance and quality control is achieved and addressed through the design process, construction documents, and inspections.
- Explain the duties and responsibilities of the building inspector and how to manage the inspection process and choose appropriate methods of keeping related records and documentation.
- Apply the knowledge of the various codes and effectively communicate project errors, omissions, and deficiencies to achieve optimum quality control.
- Explain inspector career development.
Types of Assessments
There will be online proctored exams and quizzes; as well as assignments and discussion boards to assess your progress. PowerPoints and videos, as well as reading assignments will be weekly. Should expect to spend 6 to 8 hours weekly on this course.

Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
