Welcome to History 120 - Role of Women in United States History! The objective of this course is to help you develop an understanding of and a passion for American history and historical questioning.  Women’s experience in American History is multifaceted and complex.  We will compare and contrast women’s roles and status throughout American history.  Some of the concepts we will focus on include, but are not limited to, Native American women’s roles, labor and women’s history, slave women, the cult of true womanhood and the rise of feminism.  

Course Description

Student Learning Outcomes are as follows:

  • Evaluate the political, economic, intellectual and social role of women in the history of the United States.
  • Appraise women's' contributions to American culture and examine the problems and obstacles they have experienced and overcome in the course of U.S. development.

What to Expect in this Course

History is much more than just names and dates.  Some dates are important to help us frame a concept or turns in historical eras.  However, historical motives are key to understanding and interpreting American history.  By understanding the why of historical study, you can expand your experience with the past and prepare yourself for the future.
