I'm Professor Andrea Vibe and will have the pleasure of guiding you through the development of Rock & Roll. We will explore how Rock music has changed throughout the 20th century, influencing social, political and cultural  issues. You will learn about, listen and watch artists from different historical periods. Music is my passion and I hope to bring an awareness and appreciation for this great collection of styles we know as Rock. I look forward to sharing with you!

Course Description

Class explores the rise of Rock & Roll as a musical genre and examines its place in modern society. Students will achieve an understanding of the rich heritage of Rock & Roll.  They will demonstrate their understanding by participation in class discussions, completing examinations, research and concert papers. Students will recognize the music of the many great Rock & Roll artists through listening experiences.  Students will acquire a background of knowledge regarding the social environments that influenced musical styles.  Knowledge will be demonstrated by responses to quiz and exam questions. Students will understand the changes that have taken place in the development of Rock & Roll. 

What to Expect in this Course

Upon completion of this course, students who make efforts to learn and incorporate knowledge will be able to:
1. Trace the development roots of Rock & Roll. 
2. Students will be able to match social influences with various Rock & Roll genres.
3. Listen to, recognize Rock & Roll singers & instrumentalists from different historical periods. 
4. Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation for the collection of musical styles loosely categorized as Rock & Roll.
