Introduction

Welcome to Language Arts and Social Studies section of GED Prep class. My name is Jamie Hawn. I have been in education for over 20 years. I am looking forward to working with you as you prepare to earn your GED certificates. This class will help provide you with information to prepare for the exams as well as provide you with resources and study materials to succeed in your academic endeavors.

Course Description

This is a GED prep class that is designed to help  students prepare for the Language Arts and Social Studies portions of the GED tests. The GED test is a high school equivalency.

What to Expect in this Course

This class  is designed to be completed at your own pace. The student success depends on the time and frequency the student dedicates to the study.  Be sure to utilize me as your main source of assistance as I am here to help you succeed in this course.

Types of Assessments

Self assessment through online programs and textbooks to determine course of study. Official GED® practice test vouchers are provided for students to determine readiness for testing upon discussion with the instructor.

Additional Textbook Information / Link to OER Textbook

This class will use Canvas cv.canyons.edu at the start date of class. Students who have registered for this class will be able to use Canvas to access this course. There is Canvas support available to students (877)889-9052 for 24/7 support.  

Zoom class meetings will be posted in announcements in Canvas for help, instruction and up to date information.  

Students should expect to put a minimum of four hours per week of study using Canvas, online programs provided, and textbooks if the student desires to purchase.

Other Relevant Course Information

This is a self paced GED Social Studies/Language Arts Prep Class. The instructor will direct the course of studies and evaluate the student and the assistance they need depending on how long the student has been away from formal instruction. Lessons will be offered as well as other instructional materials through canvas and other resources that will be communicated and shared from the instructor. Upon assessment by the instructor, after the student has prepared, the student will be directed to an official practice test which will indicate the specific student's readiness for the GED Test.
