Coronavirus Update for Students

March 21, 2020

Dear Students,

With more cases being identified in Los Angeles County, we want to remind you of the protocols to follow.

What if I develop symptoms of the COVID-19 illness?

If you have COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and suspect you may have contracted the virus, please call your healthcare provider or the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health at (888) 397-3993.

What if someone tells me they believe they have been exposed to Coronavirus?

If someone reports to you that they have been exposed, but are not exhibiting symptoms, please have them call their healthcare provider or the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health at (888) 397-3993.

What if I am sick and believe I may have the virus, or have been exposed to the virus?

You should stay away from others if possible and contact the Student Health & Wellness Center at Ext. 3259. They will conduct an assessment by phone. If Student Health staff determine there is a likelihood of exposure, they will contact Los Angeles County Public Health, as well as provide the individual with further instructions. If you cannot reach the Student Health Office, please contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health at (888) 397-3993.

What if another student tells me they have been diagnosed with coronavirus?

  • Step 1 – Tell the individual to immediately contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health at (888) 397-3993. The diagnosing physician should have notified the county as well.
  • Step 2 – Tell the individual to immediately notify the Student Health Center at (661) 362-3259 or Campus Safety at (661) 510-3882. Or, ask the individual if you can share this information, even anonymously, and if they agree, please immediately notify the Student Health & Wellness Center at (661) 362-3259 or Campus Safety at (661) 510-3882.

We will work with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to confirm the case.

Who will notify the campus if a case is confirmed to have a connection to the district?

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health would officially notify the campus if a case was confirmed and had a connection to our district.

Please refer to the college’s Coronavirus information page at www.canyons.edu/news

Thank you very much for all that you are doing to keep our community safe and healthy.
