Confirmed Cases

Confirmed Case and Exposures

November 8, 2020

We are writing to provide notification that a member of the College of the Canyons community has been diagnosed with COVID-19. We received this information on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020.

This person was last on campus on Friday, Nov. 6, working at the COC COVID-19 drive-through testing site located in the parking structure at the corner of Rockwell and Valencia. We have conducted contact tracing and notified those people who were exposed to the affected individual. Those individuals have been asked to self-quarantine and not come to campus for 14 days. Wider public exposure is not a concern. The testing center provides a closed window self-administered test and all people staffing the site stay 6 feet away from the cars.

We understand that some people may wish to know more about this case. We are balancing the concern that people feel with the need, by law, to respect the privacy of those diagnosed with COVID-19. To that end, we can’t provide any details that would serve to identify this individual.

We have notified the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health about this positive case.

For more information about COVD-19, we encourage you to review the CDC's Frequently Asked Questions.

For details on resources available to college employees, please visit the Human Resources website. There, you will find information about benefits available under federal, state, and local laws, including, workers’ compensation, as well as options for COVID-19 related leave, including company-offered sick leave, state-mandated leave, supplemental sick leave, or leave under collective bargaining provisions. Protections against retaliation and discrimination may also be found on the website. For further questions, please contact Human Resources by calling (661) 362-5563.

Thank you for continuing to follow health and safety guidelines and doing your part to keep our college healthy.
