Confirmed Case and Exposures

December 5, 2020

We are writing to provide notification that a member of the College of the Canyons community has been diagnosed with COVID-19. We received this information late Friday, Dec. 4.

The employee was last on campus Monday, Nov. 30. We have conducted contact tracing with those who interacted with the individual and determined that five employees who were exposed will be required to undergo COVID-19 testing and self-quarantine for 14 days.

As mentioned in earlier cases, we understand the desire to know more about this situation. However, we must balance the concern that we all have for our co-workers with privacy laws. With that in mind, we are not able to provide more detail that could identify this individual.

We have notified the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health about this positive case.

For more information about COVID-19, we encourage you to visit the CDC's Frequently Asked Questions.

For details on resources available to college employees, please visit the Human Resources website. There, you will find information about benefits available under federal, state and local laws, including workers’ compensation, as well as options for COVID-19-related leave, including company-offered sick leave, state-mandated leave, supplemental sick leave, or leave under collective bargaining provisions. Protections against retaliation and discrimination may also be found on the website. For further questions, please contact Human Resources at (661) 362-5563.

We appreciate everyone’s continued efforts to heed health and safety guidelines and do their part to protect the health of our college community.
