Confirmed Case and Exposures

March 11, 2021

We are writing to provide notification that a member of the College of the Canyons community has been diagnosed with COVID-19. We received this information on Wednesday.

An employee working in the University Center and who was last on campus Tuesday, March 9 received a positive diagnosis on Wednesday, March 10 and notified the district the same day. Two other employees were exposed. All will quarantine for the required period.

As mentioned in earlier cases, we understand the desire to know more about this situation. However, we must balance the concern that we all have for our co-workers with privacy laws. With that in mind, we are not able to provide more detail that could identify these individuals.

We have notified the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health about the positive cases.

For more information about COVD-19, we encourage you to review the CDC's Frequently Asked Questions.

For details on resources available to college employees, contact our employee COVID-19 officer, Maria Calderon at (661) 362-5563. She will help you with information about benefits available under federal, state, and local laws, including, workers’ compensation, as well as options for COVID-19-related leave, including district-offered sick leave, leave under collective bargaining provisions, and protections against retaliation and discrimination.

Additional information, procedures and protocols are available in the district's Containment, Response and Control Plan.

We appreciate everyone’s continued efforts to heed health and safety guidelines and do their part to protect the health of our college community.
