University of Massachusetts Global MA Psychology MFT/PCC

2022 – 2023
Advising Information
College of the Canyons and University of Massachusetts Global

  •
The program is designed to help students acquire a broad-based knowledge of psychology in its historical and cultural contexts, both as an empirical science of human behavior and as a foundation for a professional career in human services.

The Master of Arts in Psychology with a combined emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling explores areas such as advanced psychopathology, diagnosis, child abuse reporting, crisis and trauma counseling, community and environmental mental health, and human diversity. It includes a substantial experimental component in which the student works under supervision at an approved counseling site.

The degree curriculum meets the education requirements for licensure in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Completing both emphasis areas may give students more options in terms of future careers and may increase marketability in diverse work settings. University of Massachusetts Global also offers the ability to take one of the two as a stand-alone emphasis.
