CCC Pathway Information
The study of English prepares students for careers in any field for which close reading,
critical thinking, and thoughtful, accurate written and verbal expression are
necessary.
The English Department offers several areas of instruction:
- College skills courses, which integrate reading and writing instruction to prepare students for success in transfer-level composition courses
- Transfer-level composition courses, which fulfill the language and rationality general
education
requirement and reading and writing competency requirements for graduation, as well as CSUGE and IGETC transfer requirements - Literature courses, which fulfill humanities general education and transfer requirements and provide cultural enrichment as well as experience with close reading and analysis
- Creative writing courses, which fulfill humanities general education and transfer requirements and provide instruction in multiple genres as well as literary magazine production
- Technical writing courses, which prepare students for writing in the workplace
- A linguistics course, which analyzes systems of grammar, the social and historical
contexts of
language, language learning, and language change

ASSOCIATE DEGREE FOR TRANSFER PATHWAY
YEAR ONE OF TWO-YEAR PROGRAM
This is a suggested pathway for both the major preparation and general education courses
required to complete this degree. However, students can select other courses that
meet the GE areas. If you are planning to transfer to a four-year program, please
