College of the Canyons Orientation Letters

Read your Instructor's letter for information about their course, such as their required textbooks(s), instructional materials, important dates, scheduled online meeting times, proctored exams, or other course requirements for your Online & OnlineLIVE courses.  

If you do not see an orientation letter for your course, please Contact Us, and we will provide you with your Instructor's email address so that you can contact them directly with any questions. Thank you!

Understanding Class Types

In the schedule of classes, you will see different formats listed. See below for descriptions of how each class will be conducted:

  • What to expect in an Online course:

    All class work is conducted online through Canvas without a requirement for real-time/live meetings.

    Be sure to read the instructor's orientation letter for each class you register for, in order to be aware of the type of class you're in, what to expect, and how to best prepare and get started.

  • What to expect in an OnlineLIVE course:

    You will meet with your instructor and classmates online during scheduled classtimes via Zoom and Canvas. 

    Be sure to read the instructor's orientation letter for each class you register for, in order to be aware of the type of class you're in, what to expect, and how to best prepare and get started.

  • What to expect in a HyFlex course:

    Instructors teach HyFlex classes on campus in a classroom, and will welcome students to join in person or via Zoom. You will have the choice to meet with your instructor on Zoom or in person during scheduled class times. 

    Be sure to read the instructor's orientation letter for each class you register for, in order to be aware of the type of class you're in, what to expect, and how to best prepare and get started.

  • What to expect in a Hybrid course:

    Hybrid classes combine the learning formats of online and on-campus classes. In a hybrid class, you can expect to have some on-campus meetings, as well as complete coursework independently online. 

    Be sure to read the instructor's orientation letter for each class you register for, in order to be aware of the type of class you're in, what to expect, and how to best prepare and get started.

  • What to expect in an InPerson course:

    Instructors teach InPerson classes on campus in a classroom. You will meet with your instructor in person during scheduled class times at the classroom location listed in the class schedule.
