Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant

Entry-level career in the clinical laboratory, requires certification/ license. Collects patient blood specimens via phlebotomy and assists in collection of other non-blood specimens. Transports and prepares specimens for testing in the clinical laboratory.


Medical Laboratory Technician

Mid-level laboratory professional, requires an Associates degree or higher and a certification/ license. Performs low to moderately complex patient tests. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation. Performs under the supervision of the clinical laboratory scientist (CLS).


Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Requires a Bachelors degree or higher and a certification/license. Performs high complexity patient tests. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation. Supervises laboratory personnel. Obtains additional education and certification to specialize in a clinical laboratory discipline to become a technical specialist.
