Current Canyons Promise Students

All current 2023-2024 Year 1 and Year 2 Canyons Promise Students should visit their respective Canyons Promise Canvas shell for additional information and resources about the program. Our Canvas shells include information about Canyons Promise Counseling services, workshops being offered, program requirements, and other important campus announcements students should be aware of.

Canyons Promise Counseling Appointments

We provide our active Canyons Promise students with drop-in counseling and one-hour counseling appointments. Current year 1 and year 2 students can find information on hours and links to book appointments in your respective Canyons Promise Canvas shell.

Program Benefits

All Canyons Promise students must maintain requirements (detailed below) in order to receive the benefits of the program. Below lists your benefits as a current student. Benefits for year one and year two students vary slightly.

Year One Student:

  • Paid tuition and student fees for fall and spring semesters only
  • Free parking permit or local bus pass (year one benefit only)
  • Priority Registration for fall and spring semesters only
  • Dedicated Promise Counseling
  • Monthly Student Success Workshops

Year Two Student:

  • Paid tuition and student fees for fall and spring semesters only
  • Priority Registration for fall and spring semesters only
  • Dedicated Promise Counseling
  • Monthly Student Success Workshops

Program Requirements

2023-2024 Year One Student:

The following information summarizes the requirements for Canyons Promise first year students:

Fall 2023 through Spring 2024

  1. Attempt a minimum of 12 units of coursework during the fall and the spring semester, AND
  2. Begin English and math requirements, AND
  3. Complete either COUNS 110 or 150 (if not taken during high school), AND
  4. Complete the fall semester with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, AND
  5. Complete the fall semester in good standing with the college.

If you are planning to continue with Canyons Promise for a second year, you MUST:

  1. At the end of spring semester 2024, you must have a minimum of 27 24* completed units (Ws are not considered completed units), AND
  2. At the end of spring semester 2024, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 2.0* or higher, AND
  3. At the end of spring semester 2024, you must be in good standing with the college, AND
  4. You must have your 2024/25 FAFSA or CADAA on file with the college NO LATER than May 31, 2024. (be sure you list COC as a school)

*Completed units and GPA requirements were updated in January 2024. All students were sent a notification of the update via email. 

2023-2024 Year Two Student:

If you are currently a second year student in Canyons Promise, the following are the requirements you must meet during the 2022/2023 academic year:

FALL 2023 SEMESTER

  1. You must attempt a minimum of 12 units during the fall semester, AND
  2. You must complete the fall semester with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, AND
  3. You must be in good standing with the college at the end of the fall semester.

SPRING 2024 SEMESTER

  1. You must have met all items listed in 1-3 above, AND 
  2. You must attempt a minimum of 12 units during the spring semester.
