Introduction

Lady Justice

Welcome, my name is Professor Rungaitis.  I am an attorney and a professor, teaching a wide variety of courses in the legal realm, across 4 different institutions.  I have been a professor here at COC for 12 years or longer.  I also sit as a temporary judge in Los Angeles County, sitting in Traffic and Unlawful Detainer courts.  When possible, I give you an extra credit opportunity to come visit the courtroom while I am being a judge.

Course Description

This course introduces the legal environment of business, including federal and state court systems and processes, business crimes, contract law, tort law, employment law, and business organizations.

What to Expect in this Course

As this is a condensed five week course, it is fast paced and you will need to be self-motivated as there are no live class sessions, either on Zoom or in a classroom. Thus, there is almost the same amount of work that I teach in the 16 week courses compressed into this five week format.  Thus, the work load is high.

Types of Assessments

Each week has 2-3 discussion boards, 2-4 quizzes and 2-4 homework packets. all done online on your own time.  There is also 1 midterm and 1 final.  I also have one or two written projects, but they are not hugely time consuming.

Textbook Information

I require the purchase of the Mind Tap for this text for this course.  This provides you with an e-book.  You may also purchase a physical copy of you want.

MindTap® Business Law, 1 term (6 months) Instant Access for Miller’s Business Law Today, Comprehensive, 13th Edition Roger LeRoy Miller

Soft-cover Edition ISBN: 978-0-357-63469-1 (optional)

Loose-leaf Edition ISBN: 978-0-357-63470-7 (optional)

Other Relevant Course Information

I do not drop low scores, but give 1 or 2 extra credit opportunities for those that want the extra points.
