Introduction

Profile picture at the Grand Canyon.

My name is Jessica Seemayer. I have a BS in Geology and a MS in Environmental Hydrogeology (it's just a fancy way to say ground water movement). I love to go hiking and just generally being outdoors, so naturally geology and oceanography topics are a perfect fit. I have been working as an instructor since 2015 teaching all topics from Geology, to Earth Science, to Environmental Geology and Oceanography.

Course Description

This class is a physical science class we will be taking an in depth look at different aspects of our environment, including the geology of our planet and formations of the oceans, the different weather patterns, different types of natural disasters, and the resources that our planet has. We will of course get into how humans have an impact on all the different parts of our planet. Examines the connections between the geosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere of the earth system as they relate to natural hazards, earth resources and human impacts on the environment within a geologic context.

What to Expect in this Course

Each week I will assign between 2 and 3 topics of readings and videos, with accompanying quizzes on each topic. There is one midterm exam which covers the first half and the final that covers the second half of the course work. I have one project due at the end of the term. You will need to check in to the Canvas shell multiple times each week and have reliable access to the internet. All information, readings, assignments, and exams will be posted on the course Canvas shell.
