I am Maral Markarian. I am your instructor for this class. I have been teaching at College of the  Canyons for over five years in the CAWT department as well as Continuing Education. Online learning could be a little intimidating for some, especially if one is not comfortable using computers. However, this has not stopped students in the past to try and succeed. We have had a lot of good times together in the past while learning about computers and Microsoft Applications. I hope to have another great term with you. I am looking forward to seeing you all online on the Canvas ZOOM screen. 

Course Description

This course introduces applications for communications required in the typical office setting such as Outlook, PowerPoint and Acrobat.

This course will be conducted online LIVE. Please check the schedule of classes for course start and end dates.

In order to take this class, you must have a computer (Windows 7 or higher – NO Apple computers, MacBook etc..(, access to the Internet, a browser such as Google Chrome, the ability to send/receive e-mail (strictly through student e-mail), and Microsoft Office (available for free download through your student e-mail).

What to Expect in this Course

We will be discussing the functionality of PowerPoint, Outlook, and Acrobat. The learning process is by doing projects together. You will have a short assignment at the end of each session and/or a small project at the end of the course. Help from the instructor is available as needed via e-mail.

On the first day of class:

1. Log into Canvas

2. Log into your CanyonsID. You will be automatically logged into Canvas.

3. On the left panel, click on Courses

4, Click on All Courses

5. Click on your NC CAWT 10D course

6. Read the home page

7. Watch the short video and follow the instructions

8. Wait until the instructor admits you into the ZOOM meeting at 9 a.m.

This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:

  • CanyonsID Username is your COC student email address (Ex: username@my.canyons.edu)
