Explore a new activity, upgrade an existing skill, and learn while you have fun!

At College of the Canyons Community Education we offer short-term classes and activities, easy registration, low fees and outstanding instructors.

The Community Education program offers non-credit, fee-based classes and activities designed to serve individuals with educational goals that do not require college credit. Community education classes are offered in addition to COCs credit program and are not academic equivalents or prerequisites of regular credit classes.

* The Community Education office is located at the College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus on the second floor of the University Center, UCEN-279. The office is open for in-person drop in from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. *

Wilderness First Aid Course

This course offers First Aid and CPR training for when access to medical care is delayed. It is well suited for individuals who tend to work or play in semi-remote backcountry settings. Learn how to identify common backcountry problems as serious vs not serious. Additionally, gain the confidence to make decisions and take action to help yourself and others in an emergency.

Wilderness First Responder Certification Course

This is the definitive course for outdoor enthusiasts to help them adventure safer, and is perfect for those who love to travel or go on remote adventures! You'll learn how to respond in a dynamic emergency, as well as care for someone when help is far away. This hybrid WFR course has 2 fundamental components: online pre-course learning and in-person hands-on practice.

The 5 days of the in-person course instruction will be focused on putting that foundational knowledge into practice. This will include group demonstrations, skills clinics, and a lot of role-playing. Students will practice patient care on live "patients" in realistic drills and simulations for a hands-on approach to wilderness medicine.
