Dean's Welcome
If you are passionate about caring for others at a fundamental level and enjoy helping them be and stay well, you have arrived at the right place!!
Welcome to the Division of Health Professions(HP)!
We are committed to providing outstanding courses and programs that prepare students for careers in the health and public service areas, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Registered Nurse and Medical Lab Technician.
These programs provide engaging, hands-on learning in a variety of settings such as clinical practices in hospitals working directly with patients, blood sample analysis in labs, and ride-along on EMS vehicles. In addition, they prepare students for high demand, well paying jobs, and serve as entry points for future degrees, career advancement and wage growth pathways. Examples of additional degrees include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Nutrition Science, and Clinical Lab Science, to name a few. I encourage you to use the links to Career Trees, Program Mapper, and the programs’ pages to explore more opportunities. I also encourage you to speak with a counselor as soon as you can to get started on your path.
Since COVID-19 started, the HPPS programs, without missing a beat, has transformed its instructional operations to support student progress through their courses, completion of their programs, success in licensure exams, and job placement. This was possible through team work, persistence, the exceptional talents of everyone involved, and the College’s investment in state-of-the-art tools and technology to support changes in the delivery of instruction.
While the transformation triggered by the pandemic was challenging, I strongly believe the resulting adaptations will continue to serve us in the coming semesters and years by making instruction even more responsive to the needs of an increasingly diverse student body and providing more flexible models for learning and teaching. The pivoting of operations and investment in the programs also represent the commitment of the College of the Canyons’ leadership to excellence and innovation. This gives me a sense of anticipation and excitement to see what the coming years will bring about, be it in new programs or adaptations in learning and teaching. I invite you to join me on this ride by starting your journey here in the Health Professions and Public Safety Division at College of the Canyons!!
