Registration Open Winter 2026 Session
Nov. 12, 2025 – Students looking to get ahead can now register for the winter 2026 session, which features more than 340 class sections in a variety of learning formats. Running Jan. 5 to Feb. 7, the accelerated session gives students an opportunity to complete key courses before the spring semester begins on Feb. 9. This year’s winter class schedule includes a wide range of general education and career technical education (CTE) classes designed to help students meet degree, certificate, or transfer goals.
College Named 2025 Pathway Champion
Nov. 6, 2025 – College of the Canyons has been named a 2025 Pathway Champion for excelling in Black Transfer-Level Math Success by The Campaign for College Opportunity. The college is one of three California community colleges that supported the highest percentage of Black students to complete a transfer-level math course within one year of their initial enrollment during the 2023-24 academic year. "We remain dedicated to breaking down barriers and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed,” Acting Superintendent/President Dr. Jasmine Ruys said.
Paralegal Studies Celebrates 20th Year
Nov. 4, 2025 – The College of the Canyons Paralegal Studies Department marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the University Center. The event drew more than 70 attendees, including program alumni, faculty members, and members of the paralegal advisory board. Since 2005, the program has awarded 326 associate of arts degrees and 94 certificates of achievement in paralegal studies.
New Healthcare Program to Debut in Fall '26
Nov. 4, 2025 – The College of the Canyons Occupational Therapy Assistant Program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, which allows the program to start enrolling its first 28-student cohort. Expected to launch in fall 2026, the program will prepare students to become skilled healthcare professionals working under occupational therapists to provide hands-on support and intervention.
Scholarly Presentation Set for Nov. 13
Oct. 29, 2025 – Professor Dr. Eddie Becton will present “The Soul of a Nation: A History of Black Music Informing Democracy,” a scholarly presentation scheduled Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Becton will offer a historical examination of Black music in America, exploring how artists have used their songs to define and challenge the nation’s ideals of democracy, freedom, and justice.
First Clinical Lab Scientist Graduation
Oct. 28, 2025 – The first Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) cohort graduated during a ceremony at the University Center on Friday, Oct. 24. Launched in 2024, the program prepares students for careers in clinical laboratories. Twelve graduates earned certificates and may now take the state certification exam. “These students are entering the workforce at a time when the demand for clinical laboratory scientists continues to grow," said Dr. Hencelyn Chu, CLS program director and Medical Laboratory Technologies chair.
College Chosen as National Park Ambassador
Oct. 7, 2025 – College of the Canyons has been selected to join the 2025–26 class of National Park Trust College Ambassadors, standing out as the only community college among a prestigious group of universities nationwide. Other participants include Harvard University, Georgetown University, and 15 others. The program equips students to lead outdoor initiatives on their campuses while gaining practical, hands-on experience in the park and outdoor industries.
Golf Tournament
Golfers were out in force at Valencia Country Club for the COC Foundation's SiteOne and Hunter Industries Swing for Student Success golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 20. Presented by Orion Risk Management, the tournament supports students with scholarships, emergency aid, and other vital services.

Hundreds of job-seekers packed the West PE gymnasium for the Santa Clarita Job Fair on Friday, Oct. 17. Career Services' biannual event was presented in partnership with the SCV Economic Development Corp., SCV Chamber of Commerce, City of Santa Clarita, and America's Job Center of California.
Into the Stratosphere
The College of the Canyons chapter of the Society of Physics Students successfully launched a high-altitude balloon carrying a scientific device that members designed and built. The payload included a bio-aerosol sampler to collect microorganisms in the stratosphere. The work is part of a scientific thesis by instructor and chapter advisor Kimberly Berthet. Read More
Student Experiment Soars
An experiment designed by College of the Canyons students soared into the upper stratosphere aboard NASA's High Altitude Student Platform scientific research balloon on Thursday, Sept. 4. The device, designed to capture atomic spectra of the sun's corona, was built by members of the college's Aerospace and Science Team. The balloon was launched from Fort Sumner, N.M.
