Dr. Ruys Named Superintendent/President

The Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees announced on Monday that Dr. Jasmine Ruys has been selected as the next Superintendent/President of College of the Canyons, pending approval of her employment contract at the board's regular business meeting scheduled for April 15, 2026.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next Superintendent/President of College of the Canyons,” said Ruys. “I look forward to working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the community to build on the college’s strong foundation, expand opportunities for student success, and advance our shared commitment to innovation, equity, and excellence.”

With more than 24 years of progressive experience at COC, Ruys will transition from her role as Interim Superintendent/President, where she provided districtwide leadership focused on institutional stability, enrollment growth, fiscal stewardship, and mission-driven decision-making. Previously, as Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services, she oversaw more than $50 million in budgets and led comprehensive programs supporting more than 30,000 students annually.

Throughout her tenure, Ruys has advanced key initiatives including Guided Pathways, AB 705 implementation, the creation of the Intercultural Center, expansion of dual enrollment, and large-scale technology modernization. Known for her collaborative leadership style, she has strengthened participatory governance, led district negotiations, and cultivated partnerships with K–12 districts, business and industry, and community organizations. She holds a doctorate in organizational leadership and a master’s degree in educational counseling from the University of La Verne, as well as a bachelor’s degree in history from California Lutheran University.

“Dr. Ruys brings a clear vision, a collaborative spirit, and a deep commitment to student success,” said Board of Trustees President Sharlene Johnson. “We are confident in her ability to lead the college forward, strengthen community partnerships, and build on our legacy of excellence.”
