Jon Amador is a passionate audio enthusiast and artist-educator, earning both Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from California Institute of the Arts (Music Technology and New Media, and Sound Design, respectively). Upon his graduation from Cal Arts In 1999, Jon Amador began his teaching career at COC as an adjunct instructor in the Radio/TV/Film department; in 2001, Jon was hired full-time, and assumed the position of department chair; he modernized the programs in RTVF, and incorporated the Animation and Journalism programs into MEA, to bring a new synergy to MEA’s multi-disciplinary training model.

With over 12 years of tremendous growth and student success in MEA, Jon is taking a new approach to train his audio students, merging the Sound Arts program with the Music Department. Along with his colleagues in Commercial and Electronic Music, Jon is thrilled to break new ground in the Music department’s all-new recording studios and computer music lab. Moving forward, Jon continues to develop new training opportunities, with project-based learning initiatives that foster collaboration in the media and performing arts. Jon is grateful that College of the Canyons has become a wellspring for his career and artistry, as he looks forward to inspiring the next generation of sound artists.
