Our Mission

The mission of the Basic Needs Center is to address the fundamental needs of our students, promoting a positive and inclusive campus environment. We strive to remove barriers to education by offering essential services and fostering a sense of community, helping students flourish in their journey towards academic success and self-sufficiency.

Emergency Grant Application

Do you have an unexpected financial emergency? Do you have expenses you need assistance to cover: housing, utilities, childcare, etc.? Apply for an Emergency Grant! 

 

The Basic Needs Center (BaNC) provides the following services:

  • Food - grab & go snack items, single serve items, & canned goods
  • Clothing - seasonal clothing & business attire
  • Personal hygiene products
  • CalFresh & Medi-Cal sign up & assistance
  • Housing referral assistance

Fresh Success

 

What is Fresh Success?
A program that provides CalFresh recipients with career preparation, case-management, and financial support.

An eligibility determination with the Director of Student Resources at The BaNC is required prior to approval and/or disbursement of funds.

Eligible students may receive the following types of support:

  • Transportation
  • Textbooks/Materials
  • Tests & Fees
  • Emergency Housing & Utilities
  • Internet/Mobile Device Service Payments
  • Minor Automobile Repairs
  • Medical/Vision/Dental Expenses

The Village
The BaNC partners with The Village (a Non-Profit Organization) to offer the Campus Peer Navigator Program

SHOWER OF HOME (HOUSING)
The initial housing stay is offered for a year, and can be extended if the student has more semesters to complete their program. Housing is privately owned houses, which Shower of Hope leases in order to house college students. Houses are typically four-bedroom houses with two students sharing each bedroom with their own bed and desk. All housing, food WiFi and utility expenses are paid for by Shower of Hope. The student will not have any out-of-pocket expenses related to living in the house.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
1. Apply - Online Application
2. Phone - Call Shower of Hope and have a phone conversation with a Shower of Hope representative (626) 999-1856 or Hopehousing@theshowerofhope.org
3. Zoom - If the student and Shower of Hope decided to continue the process, a Zoom meeting is held.
4. House Site Visit - after the initial phone conversation and Zoom meeting, the student will be invited to visit the house location for a tour so they can see what the house and room looks like.
