Withdrawal Options

Can I withdraw from my courses?

If a student needs to drop a course, the student has three options:

  • You can use My Canyons to withdraw from your course.

    • The grade of W added to the transcript for the course for this term.
    • The grade of W may impact a student's financial aid.  Please check with your Financial Aid Advisor.
    • The grade of W will not change or eliminate any financial aid debt.
    • The grade of W will calculate towards probation or dismissal status.
    • Students can withdraw from a course through the W deadline. Please check with your instructor for the W deadline for your course.
    • Students who elect a W will be informed of the ability to change to an EW grade or to have the withdrawal removed from the transcript. Changing to an EW or having the W removed from the course will provide the student with a refund for the course.
  • By selecting an EW on the Withdrawal Options Form, the following information will be applied:

    • The grade of EW added to the transcript for the course for this term.
    • A refund will be provided to the student for the course.
    • The grade of EW will not affect a student’s academic or progress probation.
    • The grade of EW may impact a student's financial aid.  Please check with your Financial Aid Advisor.
    • The grade of EW will not change or eliminate any financial aid debt.
    • The Veterans office will report this EW grade as a non-punitive grade to the VA.
    • If you are part of a special population such as EOPS, MESA, Athletics, ISP, etc., please check with your counselor to understand how this grade may affect you.
  •  By selecting a removal of the W from the transcript on the Withdrawal Options Form, the following information will be applied:

    • The course and the grade of W will be removed from the transcript for the course for this term.
    • A refund will be provided to the student for the course.
    • The course and removal of the W will not affect a student’s academic or progress probation.
    • The removal of the course from the transcript may affect your financial aid by requiring a repayment of grants and/or loans. The course will not be reported as an enrollment. Please check with the Financial Aid advisor.
    • If you are part of a special population such as Veterans, EOPS, MESA, Athletics, ISP, etc., please check with your counselor to understand how this grade may affect you.
