ONLINE EXPERIENCE: STUDENT COMMENTS
"I miss the classroom setting because I work well when I can compare my art to other art pieces. I like to get other perspectives on the project. Seeing how others approach each assignment can inspire me to decide which direction I want to take. Having this art class online now has forced me to rely on information from other artists who post videos to YouTube. By watching online videos, I have learned different sketching techniques that I had not learned before, so I am grateful for this unique experience of doing classwork at home.
I spend a lot of time watching television and listening to music. Most days I have to remind myself to watch positive, uplifting shows and movies and to listen to uplifting music because there is so much negativity in the news and on social media. I take a 30 minute walk with my dog each day to get sunshine and fresh air. On my walks I see different flowers blooming and I hear a lot of different noises and people talking in their yards. I also cook or bake new recipes each week. Playing video games is another thing that I do sometimes. I have also visited with my parents a few times while social distancing and gone for long walks.
The pros are that I can work on classwork any time of day in my pajamas and have more time to work on projects, I save money on gas and driving, and I can watch YouTube to learn from other artists.
The cons are that I don't have the same level of social interaction with my classmates and professor; I have more time to procrastinate; I am easily distracted by my husband, dog, phone, TV; I can't get live instruction with live feedback in this setting; I miss the feeling of being on campus."
