About the Major

The English major offers students the ability to think imaginatively and critically about the world in which they live. Students majoring in English at College of the Canyons learn to see the world from a variety of different perspectives, which includes reading works from the American and English canons, the classics of world literature, and the latest voices emerging from African American, Asian American, Latina/o, and Native American communities. Furthermore, students interested in making their own contributions to literature can work on creative endeavors with the staff’s talented and published authors. Students can also gain publishing experience by working on our award-winning literary magazine cul-de-sac. At the same time, majoring in English provides students with practical skills, such as clear written communication, close reading, and creative thinking which can serve students pursuing several different career paths.

The English Department’s faculty are a talented, and caring group who are experts in their field and dedicated to student success. We look forward to seeing you in our classes. If you have questions about the major or any of our classes, feel free to email the department chair,
Professor Adam Kaiserman.
