As a result of AB-705, a recent legislative bill signed by the governor, California Community Colleges are required to maximize the likelihood that students will complete college-level coursework in math and English within a one-year time frame. Another provision of the law is that math and English departments are not allowed to place students into classes below transfer level without evidence that they will be highly unlikely to succeed. Therefore, beginning in the Fall of 2019, the English Department has eliminated its developmental course sequence and will place all students into a new 4-unit English 101 course.
