Pierre Etienne
Professor of French, France
Born and raised in La Rochelle, France and educated in both France and the United States, Pierre Etienne did his undergraduate work in foreign languages at Middlebury College and his graduate work in French literature at Tufts University. His primary fields of training and interest are 19th and 20th century French poetry and prose, French cinema, contemporary French civilization, and Francophone literature of Africa and the Antilles. He has lectured extensively at various American and Puerto Rican universities and has published articles on French cinema as well as on the prose works of Marivaux, Victor Hugo and Andr Malraux. Prior to moving to California, Professor Etienne spent six years as a lecturer at Tufts university and two summers at its European Center in Talloires, France, four years as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and nine years as an Associate Professor and Director of the French Department at the University of Puerto Rico. He is currently Professor of French and Director of the French Program at College of the Canyons where he teaches French language, literature and civilization. He is also director of the College of the Canyons International Film Festival and Summer in Paris program and he teaches as a regular visiting professor at the Herb Alpert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts.
