Commercial Music
College of the Canyons offers class studies in Commercial Music
Serviced by an Industry Defining Studio
With a state-of-the-art recording studio within reach, students will learn on the same technology used by professionals. From working with a rock band, jazz ensemble, or symphony orchestra, there are always opportunities for students to develop their skill sets. Laden with analog preamps, Dante routing and standard Digital Audio Workstations, this facility provides an exciting place to learn the craft of recording as you can only do in a pro studio.
Demystify the Art and Business of Music
Students will discover the secrets of the industry that will protect them through their career. Through examining copyright, publishing and marketing, they can develop strategies that will keep them working. By developing knowledge in arranging and production, students will gain experience to make them worthy songwriting partners, or great independent artists.
In the Studio or On the Stage
The Commercial Music program supports hands-on education in the field. Whether it’s planning a microphone layout and checking levels on-stage or surgically editing sound and mixing on a studio console, students will learn more than just the theory behind industry jobs. They can safely explore what makes professional productions function.
Skills to Place You in the Workforce
Emphasizing application over traditional learning, students will exercise their skills repeatedly over many engaging projects. From using tools like Logic and Pro Tools to learning signal flow and mixing techniques, students can expect to build the skills needed to engineer professional recording sessions. In combination with techniques on microphone placement and common recording practices, they will exit curriculum with a knowledge base that studios and production companies actively seek.
