Introduction

I am Regina Roscigno; but everyone calls me Gina.  I will be your instructor for this learning experience called distance learning. I have been teaching at College of the Canyons for over fifteen years, both in the CAWT Department and for Continuing Education. I look forward to getting to know you throughout the semester.

Online classes demand time and discipline. I suggest you set aside the same time each day to log in to Canvas and work on your assignments.

All the information you need to succeed in this course will be found on Canvas in Modules. Take the time to read all the posted materials.

Course Description

This course provides a continuation of CAWT-150, presenting a comprehensive overview of advanced features of Microsoft Word including, merging documents, sorting and selecting data using an Access database, formatting macros, styles, working with shared documents, creating specialized tables and indexes, and using XML data in different applications. Prepares students for the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOS) certification expert exam in Word.

MAC USERS PLEASE NOTE: This course is designed for MS Office for Windows. Students may NOT use programs for MAC to complete the assignments for this course. Only MAC’s that have been cross-platformed to run Windows and MS Office for Windows on MAC may be used.

What to Expect in this Course

First Day of Class Instructions:  Log in to Canvas > Discussions > Attendance Forum.

 Students must post one time to the Attendance Forum on Canvas within the first 36 hours of the course start date that they are present, or they will be dropped from the roster in Admissions and Records.

Students can expect to create Word Documents using MS Office 365 programs, which may be downloaded for free from the Distance Learning Website. SAM Assignments will require you to download files from the Cengage Unlimited, MindTap/SAM platform. You can also expect to engage in Personal Challenge Assignments whereby you will create a document of your own showing your knowledge of the Word program to date. Exams will be taken online, using the SAM platform. A Weekly Assignment Schedule will be provided, which lists Assignments and Due Dates. Students are expected to log into the course on Canvas several times a week. Students are responsible for reading all content posted on Canvas and in the course Announcements.

There are no Zoom Sessions scheduled for this course. 

Students who need additional one-on-one help may seek a tutoring session via The Learning Center (TLC). Refer to their webpage for more information regarding days/times they will be available.
